Re: Spam
Guys, I'm a little worried here.
Okay, as you know, Nintendo's current consoles are the Wii U and the 3DS. Both are quite innovative, and are fantastic consoles in their own right. But still, I'm worried about the both of them.
They just don't seem as fun as past Nintendo consoles. Both of their software lineups pretty much suck. They both have a New Super Mario Bros. game, which is just more of the same. 3DS has Super Mario 3D Land, which is quite interesting, but it still feels boring when you get down to it. The 3DS also had the remake of Ocarina of Time, which is obviously the best-selling game for the system, but it's just Ocarina of Time, a game we've all played for years on end.
There's also Nintendo Land on Wii U, which is boring as hell. It's just a minigame compilation. Like we've never seen one of those before. 3DS also has Paper Mario Sticker Star, which has pretty much killed Paper Mario for me. I mean, Thousand-Year Door is my all-time favorite Mario game, and it always will be, but Sticker Star has almost none of the elements that made it so good. I'm afraid I might not be seeing another great Mario RPG very soon.
The third party support is also pretty sketchy, with less-than-impressive games on 3DS, and mostly ports on Wii U. I really can't name one game on either console that make them appealing to me.
Clearly, this is a big problem. Sony and Microsoft will probably get ahead soon, and since I am not interested in most of their games, and since I hate both of their current consoles, if the Wii U and/or 3DS fails, gaming will probably die in my eyes.
My one other worry is all this Internet support in the industry. I mean, sure, it's fun to watch TV using a game system, or use Facebook, or be able to watch DVDs or Blu-Rays, but those are NOT GAMING. Whenever someone says a console should have more support for those things, or that smartphones or laptops make getting a game system pointless, I feel like I want to rip open their neck with my bare hands.
Whatever happened to the GameCube and PlayStation 2 days? Those consoles had their fare share of great games. (Mostly GameCube, however.) They both had excellent third-party support, and in my eyes, they are the best consoles ever made.
Nowadays, it's all about the Internet. Social games, microtransactions, downloadable content, patches, SD cards, Network/LIVE membership fees, and all that ridiculous bullshit. It's all killing gaming ever so slowly in my eyes. This Christmas, all of my gaming-related presents on my wish list are from previous systems. I even sold off my 3DS for more shopping money. It takes quite a load off of my shoulders, in my opinion.
The reason Nintendo decided to stick to only focusing on games for the Wii, is because they believe that putting in all of that pretty much takes the "gaming" part out of the gaming system. They've received all sorts of crap for it from all those immature brats who like seeing gaming being taken over by that stuff, and now they've given in. Happy now?
I'm worried. Gaming is slowly dying, I think.

Gaming is fine. One of the problems is, you don't like it. So of course your gonna have bad views on it. I don't like the wii either, I don't like the new handhelds either. However, They are doing just fine without you and me. They have shown no bad sales and the 3DS isn't that bad, it has alot of good games on it, and I'm sure the WiiU will sell buttloads due graphics.
As for gaming dieing in your eyes. That's only if you let it. The 360 and PS3 has ALOT of good games on it that arn't all about 1st person shooting people up and stuff. So it's your fault if you see them getting ahead cause you don't wanna give them a chance, no offence, that's your choice. But a Nintnedo fan is gonna look at Nintendo and even if they see it doing bad, they are still gonna be all, Don't care, Nintendo gaming is still doing good. Also, like on those systems, don't like their games, try some of the 3rd party indie games. They are some really great ones. Besides, you don't have to play the new systems, jump back to xbox, or stick with your PS2. HELL, You can go give Sega systems a shot, you want old school. Plus, they're are tons of PC games that are really good too.
Besides, if you don't like the new systems then buy old systems, buy old games, they're are thousands of them. Gaming doesn't have to die just cause you don't wanna play new systems. My mom refuses to play anything above the SNES and she thinks gaming is fine. She didn't get all, oh well, I hate the new systems without even trying them so gaming is dieing for me. She's very content with playing her old NES games and such. So they're is no reason that you can't. You like gamecube? Then buy a ton of new gamecube games and gaming won't die, as long as you don't let it. It's not so much as gaming dieing, it's that your giving up on it, so it seems like it. If you never stop playing, then it will never die.

Re: Spam
I agree with Ms on this whole heartedly. Gaming is what you make of it, and the industry is more "household" now than it's ever been. I'll admit, certain parts of gaming are more popular than others as of late.
My friend Coco is a huge Mario fan, I'm sorry bro but he trumps you by a large mile. He too is very upset with the NEW super mario series. He adored 3D Land. He found Stick Star intuitive and interesting, but still to far of a break from the traditional formula.
However, he's happier with gaming right now than he's been in a long time! He still adores Mario and goes back and plays Bowser's Inside Story, Galaxy 2, or Bros 3 when ever the mood strikes him (hint: it's every other week) but he and I have both recently fallen in love with Playstation AllStars Battle Royal. He just recently got his newest Ratchet & Clank game, loved that! (me too, I get to play Clank <3)
My family will be getting more games this christmas than we ever have! Dylan is getting Metal Gear HD collection, and along with a remake of 2 & 3, Peace Walker is a new game none of us have played yet. Dustin? Kirby's Return to Dream Land and Wario Shake It for both of them, proof that even the Wii and its rather weak line up still has awesome games we have to go back and get still. We're also getting the Mass Effect Trilogy for 360. Fantastic Sci-Fi RPG.
Also keep in mind, 3DS and WiiU are the first Gen 9 systems. The 3DS is outselling its competition by a massive mile, I for one can't wait till Phoenix Wright X Prof Layton and Ace Attorney 5 come out, so I don't know what you're talking about "no line up" sheesh, and the WiiU is brand new. Name one system that's actually had an amazing line up upon release! SNES? Gamecube? Ps1? That's all I can think of! Everyother system always starts off weak.
Seriously bro, I just think you need to broaden your horizons. You're still trapped in the console wars when only "Call of Booty" fans care about that any more. Stretch to a new system. Try something simple like the PS1 or 2. There were more Nintendo type zany games on those systems than the "GTA" fans would like you to believe!
Classic Spryo, Crash, Jack & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, so much fun man <3

Re: Spam
You've missed the point. Games themselves are okay most of the time, it's just some of them are just more of the same. The Wii does not have a lackluster library, even if I've played most of the games on it already. I'm not able to play games on the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, since those are much too expensive, plus I hate both of those systems, plain and simple. Why? I'll explain.
My REAL point is, is that developers seem to be putting too much focus on online features and Internet connectivity. What about us folks with no Internet connection at home? We can just play a couple games, and mess around with console settings, that's all. I should know, I had a Wii for four years until the disk drive wore out since I was overusing it.
There are too many ridiculous features that the Internet connectivity can use, anyway. Netflix? It's easier to watch that on a smartphone. Besides, it's just another thing to pay for. Online channels? Those mostly have shovelware games and games that are too short to be sold it stores. I mean, there are some great WiiWare titles and all, but most of them are very uninteresting. Plus, there are shop points. Those are a pain in the ass to buy. Nintendo has point cards out, yet they are only available in 2000 point packs. Therefore, we can't just buy a 500 point pack for five bucks if we want an extra NES game. And that's not even counting membership fees and being forced to use your credit card.
My family owns one credit card. It is to be used for emergencies only. I can't even remember the last purchase we made with it. Why even have it at all? I mean, sure, dad will OCCASIONALLY bend under pressure and get a couple Redbox movies, but those are only for one night and they cut out special features on most movies. Plus, a lot of their movies are ripoffs. But that is a whole 'nother rant. My point being, we can't use credit cards or Internet connections even if we wanted to. It costs too much goddamn F@#$ b*Navi*h MONEY! That sentence is the F@#$ story of my life. "We don't have enough money." None for games, none for any kind of entertainment anymore. That's another reason I can only get old games for Christmas, not that I'm mad about that. But I digress.
About a year ago, my stupid cousin I've mentioned before stole his father's credit card out of his wallet. He used it to buy the full version of Minecraft. They grounded him, of course, and yet THEY STILL LET HIM PLAY IT. What the hell?! I don't get what is so damn appealing about that game. I know you'll argue with that, and think I'm full of shit, but what do I know? IT'S NOT LIKE I CAN F@#$ PLAY IT!
Online gaming is bullshit as well. First, there is lag most of the time. Sometimes even purposely caused by the other person. Second, you sometimes have to pay to access it. Third, it's full of screaming basement dwellers who have nothing better to do than yell shit into a game everyone's too stupid to bother quitting multiplayer matches and getting into some real games. I've seen Call of Duty online play. IT DOESN'T EVEN SOUND LIKE THEY'RE HAVING FUN, THEY SOUND LIKE THEY'VE JUST HAD WASTE EXPELLED ONTO THEM.
I hear Valve is getting into the console business as well. F@#$. It's just gonna be Steam in a box. Oh wait, it's working title IS Steam Box! Sweet, sweet irony.
Anyway, I could go on, but I imagine you're all tired of me and my shit. I'll leave with this: According to Wikipedia, the average gamer is 30 years old, and has been playing games for over 12 years. Correct me if I'm wrong, but 30 seems like the age you'd get out and do something instead of playing first-person shooters. Don't get me wrong, I respect fans of most genres no matter how old they are, but hearing those middle-aged asses scream into their headsets is wearing away my mind. To think it's even happening right now somewhere.
Plus, 30 years ago, games were still in the Atari age. The Atari was marketed to children. Most adults didn't play video games, because back then they were considered toys and nothing more. My question is, how in the hell did kids from 1982 go from playing Pac-Man giddily from cussing up a storm while playing Xbox LIVE as adults in 2012?
You didn't argue against any of my online rant in the last post, therefore I assume you believe them to be true. Feel free to post back your opinion if you so choose, but I'd feel better if we could just drop this whole thing. I shouldn't have even started this arguement. I'm such a cynical buzzkill, I ruin everyone's mood as soon as I open my huge mouth. This crap is why I have no friends offline. This is why I had to drop out of public school and begin a homeschooling program that I'm desperately behind on and can't afford. All because nobody seems to care about the terrible state of the world today. F@#$ my life.

Sorry bro, the video game market just doesn't revolve around one group of people much less one person and their tastes.
Personally I'm very happy with where the market is right now. I've been enjoying the hell out of Playstation All stars as of late, especially it's online, and I'm particularly tickled to know that Smash has actual competition now. Competition breeds innovation after all.
But the market is going to evolve, it's going to grow, it's going to add new features and new groups, and whether you like it or not, there will come a day when the 30 year olds who were there when the market first started are going to be 80 there by stretching the market to all ages.
10 year olds will have games for 10 year olds, 20 year olds will have games for 20 year olds, and 45 year olds will have games for them just the same.
The market you knew 5 years ago is gone. And the market you know today will be gone one day too.
You seem to forget that Miyamoto is damn near 50 some years old, and our favorite series will one day end as new ones replace them. There's nothing else that can be done. Video games will always be on the edge of technology taking advantage of miniaturization and social networking.
I for one hate smart phones and their convergent tech. But I can promise you one day, whatever the smart phone someday evolves into, will be the dominate game system.
Even Nintendo, the single most steadfast console based company out there is already allowing their names and properties to show up on iOS and droid. It's the future, like it or not. Otherwise, retro is up and refuse anything put out after the year 2010 like my buddy Troy did. XD
